TrafficThere have been concerns over the traffic through the village for some time. Recently, some traffic calming measures have been introduced on Station Road and the western end of Main Road but these seem to have had little effect. Fig. 17 indicates the level of concern at the time of the survey From the general feeling at the subsequent meetings, speeding traffic is still a high concern, across all levels of the community. Obviously linked to that is pedestrian safety; a higher concern among the younger population. At the youth meeting, the question of pedestrian crossings, at the junction of Main Road and Station Road, was raised in order to make it easier and safer to get from the new footbridge to The Green. Some of the footpaths in the village are also in need of repair (Springfield Road was highlighted by its residents. Some repair has been done since the survey was conducted, most notably along Main Road towards Church End, and Springfield Road’s footpaths were attended to in March 2005. Looking more closely at individual regions of the village, there is a high demand for more street lighting along Back Road, Murrow. The largest concerns over traffic speed are again Back Road, Murrow and Church End. Due to the nature of the long straight road that runs the length of the village, and the fact that the 30 mph limit only applies to the centre of the village, cars frequently travel at well in excess of the 40 mph limit around Church End, despite it being a residential area. The traffic calming measures currently in place have not been applied outside the centre of the village and thus there are still great concerns about the speed of traffic through Church End, particularly as the eastern extremes of the village are lacking in footpaths. It is also worth repeating the point that was made in the Housing section. On average, each property now has 1.6 vehicles and there is an notable increase in on-road parking and general parking problems (particularly along The Bank). Concerns were also raised about the volume of heavy traffic and farm traffic coming through the village. Points To Take Forward
