Public TransportPublic transport is an area that impacts on many others. Not only may it affect the youngsters attending school or post-school sports and activities, but it can also affect the older generation that do not have access to a car or those relying on public transport to get to work. From the results of the surveys, almost half of the current bus users are in full-time education. While 311 people used a car regularly (weekly or more frequently), only 33 said the same for buses. However, one in three said they would use the bus service if it ran more frequently. Buses later in the day (22%), cheaper fares (16%) and improved reliability (14%) would also see an increase in passengers. 14% of respondents suggested alternative routes that could be opened up. Of these, Peterborough, March and Kings Lynn were the most common suggestions. Aside from buses, there was also support for a fare car scheme. One such scheme has been tried before in the parish, but appears to have been unsuccessful. Based on anecdotal evidence from the meetings with the parish subsequent to the survey, this may have been down to poor publicity on the part of the scheme as much as a lack of support. Organised car share schemes and voluntary car schemes might also find success in the parish. In fact the surgery already runs a very successful voluntary car scheme to take patients to and from appointments both within and without the parish. It may be possible that this or a similar scheme could be applied to other things than medical appointments.
