Other Issues

Adult Education

When asked if they would be interested in furthering their educational skills, 31% responded positively. The suggestions for the nature of this adult education varied widely, from adult literacy and numeracy courses to evening classes, such as arts and crafts. It may be that some of these can be provided at Isle College in Wisbech but again public transport may prove to be a stumbling block for those without their own vehicles.

Childcare

The provision of this facility is currently met only in part by after-school clubs and pre-school playgroup, but its wider provision has implications for the full enjoyment of many of the services and facilities highlighted in earlier sections of the report. Some comments indicated that people couldn’t pursue the leisure activities that they would like to, due to a lack of childcare in the parish. Similarly, providing this service may increase both employment and the number of people using the village facilities.

Points To Take Forward

  • Support for some form of adult education classes
  • Childcare provision within the parish could be expanded
  • Welcome packs for new residents
  • Social integration both within and between parishes should be encouraged
  • Village show will remain a topic of much debate for many years
  • Despite a high proportion of retirees in the parish, local business is healthy and looking to expand
